Prime Hook Trip Report April 18, 2019

Our group of 19 met at Refuge HQ where we found first of year purple martins and tree swallows. Then we walked the Boardwalk Trail where we saw bald eagles, both yellowlegs, a small flock of dunlin, egrets, osprey and first of year marsh and house wren. A brief foray down the dike trial yielded a huge flock of shorebirds, likely dunlin, and a few avocets. See this eBird checklist for details: https://ebird.org/colombia/view/checklist/S55085393.

We then carpooled to Turkle and Fleetwood Ponds and the Pinewoods Trail We flushed a pair of wood ducks and saw a huge black rat snake on the kiosk. We then walked the loop; highlights were two bright, active Prothonotary warblers, a group of eastern towhees and a single hermit thrush.  The checklist for the second leg of the trip is at:
