Bird & Bug Bonanza at Fair Hill, MD & Newark, DE

Thirteen adventurous members of Sussex Bird Club drove to Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area, Cecil County, Maryland, arriving at about 0830. We headed southwest on the path to the first trail. Brood X 17-yr cicadas were evident in the air, on the ground in the mouths of the birds we saw. The vista’s beauty was surpassed only by the great views and large numbers of meadowlarks and bobolinks we saw and heard. Many of the birds we saw were chasing or feeding on the cicadas. A highlight was a male orchard oriole that sang then showed off for the group. Here are links to download the complete trip report and the day list.
