All our members are interested in bird conservation, and many volunteer in other capacities, such as monitoring Piping Plover nests at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Others teach adult-ed bird courses like SDALL, and some even lead international birding field trips. We also actively participate in seasonal and Christmas Bird Counts, and the Breeding Bird Atlas program.
The Sussex Bird Club was formed in 1983 and has grown to over 100 members. Meetings are held at Prime Hook NWR and most field trips are run to the many outstanding birding areas within Sussex County Delaware. Beginning birders are most welcome, and some of our field trips are tailored to detailed field identification of more common birds.

Many members of the Club are active volunteers with the Friends of Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, and the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park. For information on how to get involved with these other organizations, see our LINKS page.
